$1500 all-in for 1440p — 4070 Ti SUPER or save and grab a 4070 SUPER?

Helping my brother spec a $1500 (tower only) 1440p build and I keep going back and forth on the GPU. The 4070 Ti SUPER is the obvious answer if it fits, but pairing it with a 7800X3D pushes us right to the ceiling with no wiggle room for a decent PSU and case.

The alternative is a plain 4070 SUPER, which frees up ~$200 to spend on a better board, a 2TB drive, and a quieter cooler. He plays a mix of competitive shooters and the occasional AAA single-player title at 1440p, targeting 144Hz.

Is the Ti SUPER worth stretching for, or is the 4070 SUPER the smarter all-around buy here? Post your 1440p frame numbers if you have either card.

For a mostly-competitive player the 4070 SUPER + 7800X3D will already hold 144 in basically every shooter at 1440p. I'd take the cheaper GPU and the better everything-else every time at this budget — a flaky PSU ruins a build faster than a slightly slower GPU.

Ti SUPER only makes sense if he's chasing ultra settings in the heavy AAA stuff with ray tracing. For 144Hz competitive, save the $200. The 2TB drive and a quiet cooler will make the PC feel nicer day to day than the extra frames he'll never see.
