Hall effect keyboards for FPS - legit upgrade or just the 2026 rabbit hole?

Every keyboard discussion lately turns into actuation points, rapid trigger, and people acting like you are griefing yourself if your board does not have hall effect switches.
I get the appeal on paper, especially for shooters, but I am trying to figure out how much of the hype survives contact with normal human reflexes. If you already had a good mechanical board, did switching actually make you better, or did it mostly just make you open the config software more often?
Would love to hear from people who made the jump and stuck with it. Bonus points if you can explain the downside too, because every review video makes it sound like these boards descended from heaven last week.
